Research Institute for Biological Functions

Collaborative research on a national scale

The Research Institute for Biological Functions was established in April, 2000, in advance of the College of Bioscience and Biotechnology (due to open in 2001) to conduct research into biotechnology at Chubu University. The research institute takes as its goal the development of biology for practical application, as a means of addressing a number of issues confronting humanity, such as the environment, food supply and world health. The opening of the new College, and the expected close relationship between the two departments will provide further impetus to sustained and far-reaching technological research and development.
The staff of four are currently conducting research into the following: research into the synthesis of biological macromolecules using sugars, a study of the proportion of plant roots in the soil ecosystem, a project in developmental genetics using roundworms and applications for environmental science, and research into the development and evaluation of new food-stuffs. Seminars are planned for the release of the research team's findings.
