Research Institute for Information Science
Ground-breaking research in information science
Established to undertake groundbreaking research, the Research Institute came into being in 1993 and provides four courses: Intelligence Information, Pattern Information, Education Information, and Software.
In 1996, the institute undertook its first projects involving the collaboration of researchers from different specialist areas, and the success of these projects has led to a steady increase in work. By 1999 the Institute had become involved in a total of thirteen projects, some of which have already reached completion. The topics of research are varied. Design and trial manufacture of a mobile robot with judgement learning ability, measurement and analysis of ecological function information in relati on to all types of stimuli, and development of a kanji learning support system which takes the user into consideration, are just a few of the research areas endeavoring to produce next-generation technology.
The progress and findings of the research have been made readily available to both the public and academia through seven research presentations, eight lecture meetings, and four symposiums.
Many related research theses have also been published in the Institute's annual Information Science Research Journal.
