Message from the President

Chubu University expanded in 1984 when the College of Business Administration and Information Science and the College of International Studies were added to the original College of Engineering. Further expansion occurred in 1998 with the establishment of the College of Humanities. The College of Bioscience and Biotechnology, which opened its doors in 2001, the College of Life and Health Sciences, which started in 2006, and the College of Contemporary Education, which established in 2008, further reinforce Chubu University's metamorphosis into a truly comprehensive university.

The 20th Century was an era of astounding developments in science and technology. Running parallel to this, our lifestyles have increasing levels of prosperity and comfort. Unfortunately, a reverse side to this success exists: harmful influences that have arisen from the extremely rapid advancement and specialization of science and technology. These developments have led, in turn, to self-examination. It is essential that we tackle problems from a global standpoint, in the 21st Century. We must encourage a more harmonious co-existence between nature, humanity, and society, through a more mature science and technology than that which has hitherto existed.

I hope that the students of this university will, above all else, take the importance and enjoyment of learning itself to heart. My wish is that they grow into people able to make homes for themselves not only in a swiftly evolving Japan, but also find their place in global society at large. For this to happen, each person must have his or her own coherent course of action. The courage to try and the strength to act. This is what our graduates take away with them, ever mindful of the principal of the University founder, MIURA Kohei: 'Action and words should always go together'.

In order to cultivate such graduates, Chubu University places importance on the provision of a varied teaching staff, a relaxed teaching atmosphere, and a flexible research environment.
