中部大学教育研究No.24（2024）―54―JournalofChubuUniversityEducationNo.24（2024）ThePuzzle-BasedLiberalArtsCourse:OutcomesandChallengesfromThreeYearsofClassroomPracticeTERAIHajime＊1andKATOYoshitaka＊2＊1Professor,LanguageEducationProgram(Japanese),SchoolofGeneralEducation,ChubuUniversity＊2Part-timeLecturer,LanguageEducationProgram(English),SchoolofGeneralEducation,ChubuUniversity;AssociateProfessor,DepartmentofBritishandAmericanStudies,SchoolofForeignStudies,NagoyaUniversityofForeignStudiesAbstractIn2024,ChubuUniversityofficiallylaunchedacoursecalledthe"LiberalArtsForum."Priortotheestablishmentofthiscourse,severaltrialclasseswereconductedoveraperiodofthreeyears,startingin2021.Thispaperreportsontheoutcomesandchallengesofthe"LiberalArtsForum(LanguageandEducation)"course,whichwasledbytheauthors.Akeyfeatureofthiscoursewasthateachstudentsettheirown"puzzle"relatedtolanguageandeducationandexploreditwhilesharingtheirthoughtswithothers.Thisapproachwasadoptedbasedonthebeliefthatarticulatingpuzzlesandunderstandingone'senvironmentthroughdialoguewithothersalignswiththegoalsofliberalartseducation.Thecoursewasstructuredaroundtheexplorationofpuzzles,posterpresentations,andessaywriting.Throughthreeyearsofpractice,weidentifiedchallengessuchashowtohelpstudentsacquiretheknowledgeneededtosetandexploretheirpuzzles,andhowtofostercollaborationamongstudentsandteachers.Keywordsliberalarts,course,puzzle,posterpresentation,essaywriting
