野外教室でひらく新しい学び―63―JournalofChubuUniversityEducationNo.25(2025)LearningBeyondtheClassroom:AnEarthScienceOutdoorProgramwithUniversity-wideParticipationKUDOTakeshi*1*1Professor,SchoolofGeneralEducation,ChubuUniversityAbstractThisstudyreportsonthepracticeofan"outdoorclassroom"implementedatChubuUniversity.Theprogramconsistedoffourcomponents:exhibitionvisitsattheFukuiPrefecturalDinosaurMuseum,hands-onfossilexcavation,geologicalobservationsalongtheKisoRiverinKagamigaharaCity(GifuPrefecture),andfieldworkattheYoroFault.Participantswererecruitedfromacrossallfaculties,creatinganinterdisciplinarylearningenvironment.Analysisofquestionnairesandfreeresponsesrevealedthatstudentsdeepenedtheirunderstandingofthedynamicnatureofscientificknowledge,theprocessofresearch,thesenseofgeologicaltimescales,andtheconceptofEarth'sdynamismincludingearthquakes.Furthermore,theimpressiveexhibitsandtheexcitementofexcavationstimulatedstudents'motivationtolearn,whiletheirrequestsformorefreeexplorationandexperientialactivitiesindicatedthepromotionofautonomousandinquiry-basedlearning.Thisreporthighlightstheroleofexperientiallearninginliberalartseducationattheuniversitylevel,andsuggeststhepotentialofconnectingnaturalscienceswithbroadersocialissuesthroughoutdooreducation.KeywordsOutdoorclassroom,Experientiallearning,Liberalartseducation,Earthscienceeducation,Museum-basedlearning
