Graduate School of Bioscience and Biotechnology

Challenging the most advanced bioscience research with the concept of "Life, Food and Environment"

We provide quality graduate education and conduct cutting-edge research in the interdisciplinary fields of bioscience and biotechnology, and we aim to contribute to society through the development of competent human resources and research.

About the Graduate School of Bioscience and Biotechnology

The 21st century is often called “The Age of Biotechnology.” People all over the world understand this, seeing how humans are overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic. The field of bioscience and biotechnology has been advancing rapidly, unveiling the unlimited capability of creatures and expanding the possibility of human life. Offshoots of this field vary from bio-industry to medical care, to food, to environment, and many more. Today’s industries now recognize the importance of these endeavors, and they actively seek qualified professionals with special knowledge and understanding of bioscience as well as natural science technology. The Graduate School of Bioscience and Biotechnology was opened in April 2005 in response to the growing demand from society. This program offers students the chance to expand upon their undergraduate studies and to acquire useful techniques for research and development by studying advanced modern bioscience, which has three major areas – basic life science, environmental bioscience, and food and nutrition science. Our goal is to assist students as individual humans who have grown and acquired advanced knowledge, skills, and expertise in bioscience and biotechnology. Our results are outstanding, as all graduates are successful in finding employment every year. Through this, we hope to make a significant contribution to society.

Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology: Master’s Course / Doctoral Course

What will be significant for human beings and the earth in the future? “Life,” “Food,” and “Environment.” These are research fields that students can study in the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology. The curriculum is unique and unprecedented among universities in Japan, ensuring small-group instruction with close individual tutoring and emphasizing training research methodology. In addition, the program tailors its curriculum design to address each student’s prospective course of study. Students greatly benefit from the many intensive lectures, called “omnibus” classes, that expert faculty members offer. The program’s pride centers on its faculty, who play an active role in the cutting edge of bioscience and biotechnology in today’s world. In addition, students study in an ideal learning environment accompanied by the most advanced facilities and technology, including a next-generation sequencer, liquid chromatograph-tandem mass spectrometer, and scanning electron microscope. In addition, a food plant is available for Graduate School students who wish to become food professionals. In this environment, the program ensures highly advanced education to promote modern bioresearch.
