How much are the enrollment and tuition fees?

The fees for admission to Chubu University’s undergraduate program are as follows:

  • Admission Fee: 280,000 yen
  • Other Fees (Tuition, facility fee, educational enhancement fee, etc.): approx. 1,100,000-1,500,000 yen (depending on the department)

The fees for admission to Chubu University’s graduate program are as follows:

  • Admission Fee: 100,000 yen
  • Other Fees (Tuition, facility fee, educational enhancement fee, etc.): approx. 600,000 – 900,000 yen (depending on the department)
  • Students who have the resident status “College Student” will receive a 50% reduction for tuition fee.

Where can I take the entrance exam?

You must take the entrance examination at Chubu University in Japan.

Are there lectures available in English?

In regards to international student admission, please note that all students are required to be able to read, write and speak Japanese fluently, as all courses are conducted in Japanese.

What level of Japanese language proficiency is required?

Proficiency equivalent to Level N1 or Level N2 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test is desirable.

Can I enroll in Chubu University’s undergraduate program even though I do not speak Japanese?

Almost all undergraduate classes are conducted in Japanese, with the exception of language classes. At minimum, Level N2 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test is required. Many international students first come to Japan to acquire Japanese language skills, and then take and pass the Special Selection Examination for International Students and are admitted to the program.

Can I enroll in Chubu University’s master’s program even though I do not speak Japanese?

The master’s program includes lecture courses, which are given in Japanese. Therefore, it is necessary to have at least Level N2 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test in order to understand these classes. It is important to improve your Japanese language skills before entering the program.

Can I enroll in the doctoral program at Chubu University even though I do not speak Japanese?

The doctoral course of the graduate school basically consists of instruction from the professor in charge in laboratories, etc. If you make contact with the professor at the pre-entrance stage and it is determined that he/she can provide instruction in a language other than Japanese (e.g., English), you may be admitted to the program.

Are there any scholarships available for international students?

There are no scholarships available for international students. However, students who have the resident status “College Student” will receive a 50% tuition reduction.

Can Chubu University process my visa?

We do not process visa acquisition or renewal on your behalf. We will issue the necessary documents, and you must complete the necessary procedures on your own.

Are there dormitories available for international undergraduate/graduate students?

While there are no dormitories available for undergraduate/graduate international students, there are on-campus student dormitories available for students participating in short-term international exchange programs.

There are 36 international students enrolled in undergraduate programs, 20 in master’s programs and 7 in doctoral programs as of May 1, 2022.
