Chubu University has been selected by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) for the 2024 Support for Pioneering Research Initiated by the Next Generation (SPRING) program.
SPRING is a program that supports the development of outstanding doctoral students by creating an environment in which they can devote themselves to research.
Chubu University applied for a project entitled “Fostering PhD human resources who rise to the challenge of addressing global social issues through emergent integration of disciplines,” and was chosen following a selection process. The project aims to foster PhD students who have both a specialized knowledge and the ability to take a broad view to tackle global social issues by combining knowledge of natural sciences and knowledge of humanities and social sciences, and by making full use of AI and data science.
In total, 76 applications were selected nationwide from national, public, and private universities. Among private universities in the Tokai region and neighboring prefectures of Shizuoka, Fukui, and Ishikawa, only Chubu University was selected.
Chubu University will use the funds from the SPRING program to provide living and research expenses to doctoral students who are selected through an open application process. We will also provide support for career development and training content that addresses social issues, as well as overseas study.
