Five Educational Policies of the Department of Architecture

Department of Architecture

To make you a “reliable engineer” and satisfy the demands of the coming era, we have set our target to nurture architectural engineers who, with a focus on “people” and the “environment,” can build a prosperous society and contribute to the society by becoming its core. For this purpose, we employ five educational policies as follows:

1. Basic Education and the Development of Applied Skills

The world covered by architecture is vast, and even when specializing in a particular expertise, a wide range of basic knowledge is required. For this reason, this system aims for students to master basic training without omissions and polish applied skills in their area of specialty.

2. Enhancement of Creative Education

Architecture is a form of build-to-order manufacturing, and its conditions that are in the form of the environment and its uses are different. While it is undoubtedly necessary to learn the skills and accomplishments of our predecessors, each student must practice conceptualizing and manufacturing as a creator. For this reason, creative courses are continuously offered from the first year to nurture the creative ability of students.

3. Implementation of Practical/Experience-based Education

Architecture is a form of experience engineering that requires thinking with your hands and head. While classroom lectures are important, at the Department of Architecture, we offer many experimental and training courses for students to actually feel, experience, discover, and deepen their understanding of architecture.

4. Education Concerning the Relation between Society and Architecture

Architecture is the face of an era, a society, or a city. It can be said that across all times and places, architecture plays the leading role on any street corner around the world. At the Department of Architecture, we nurture cooperative and social architectural engineers to have sufficient understanding of the relation of architecture with history, culture, and society.

5. Support for Voluntary Activities

Simply completing a given task is not sufficient to perform well in our future society. The Department of Architecture supports getting voluntarily involved in architecture. By reaching a little higher to engage in various activities such as research, design, and practice, new discoveries and fascinations that lectures alone cannot provide are bound to emerge. Many older graduates have voluntarily engaged in design competitions and internships (work experience training) to grow as architects.

Admission Policy

Students are selected on the basis of the assessment of the entrance examination.

We have set the following admission policy to encourage people who can achieve “Action Before Words, A Reliable Person,” the spirit of the field of architecture and our educational philosophy; the educational philosophy, mission, and educational purposes of the Department of Engineering; and finally the educational purposes, learning, and objectives of this department.

  1. An individual with the academic ability and capacity to acquire knowledge in various areas of architecture and the ability to design.
  2. An individual who is willing to actively work in the educational program of the department.
  3. An individual who excels in spatial reception and design capabilities.
  4. An individual who is capable of taking on leadership roles.

Overseas Architectural Training

With volunteers’ participation, we organize overseas architectural training programs once in every two years.
