A 12-person delegation from Ohio University, led by President Lori Stewart Gonzalez, visited Chubu University from Wednesday, May 15th to Friday, May 17th.
The visit took place as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the academic exchange between the two institutions. Chubu University President, Dr. Yoshimi Takeuchi, visited Ohio University in November 2023.
Activities during the visit included the presentation of a 50th anniversary essay collection entitled “The Impact of Study Abroad on Life: Testimonials From 2,000 Participants Over 50 Years,” fruitful discussions regarding the promotion of research exchange and alumni association activities, a welcome dinner, a lunch reception attended by past visiting professors and host faculty, a tea ceremony and calligraphy experience, demonstrations of swordsmithing in Seki City and cormorant fishing on the Nagara River, a visit to Chubu’s Tokyo Satellite Office, and a photo shoot with the mascots from both universities.
The two sides took this opportunity to look back on the rich history of personal exchanges and achievements over the span of 50 years since their first cooperative agreement was signed in May 1973. Cooperative activities have included student exchanges at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, English language education programs, and bilateral exchanges of visiting professors. Members exchanged views on how to further develop cooperative activities in the future.
It is hoped that this visit will serve as an opportunity to further promote exchanges between the two universities.
