Introductory / Intermediate Reading Skills
This is a series of classes that will help students develop their English reading skills, with an academic focus. The class begins with basic skills, including strategies for understanding the meaning of unfamiliar words or expressions, making inferences about meaning, skimming, and scanning. Later, we begin reading a variety of passages in English and discussing their meaning and intent, and develop skills that will be useful not only for general reading, but for success on standardized tests such as the TOIEC or Eiken. Although it is a reading focused class, we work collaboratively, using discussions and group work to help each other with our reading skills and understanding.
Introductory / Intermediate Writing Skills
This is a series of classes that will help students develop their English writing skills, with an academic focus. The class begins with basic skills, including fundamentals of grammar and sentence structure, the composition of simple paragraphs and short passages, and similar types of short-form writing. Later, we will write longer passages in English in a variety of styles and about a variety of topics, developing a broad base of English language writing skills that will be useful not only for general writing, but for success on the written portions of standardized English tests. Although it is a writing focused class, we work collaboratively, using discussions and group work to help each other with our writing skills.
